home alone

I'm home alone!!!
The kids have gone out with my mum and dad and aren't coming back till at least tomorrow and the other half has gone out with his footie mates.
I am in full control of the sofa and the remote control. I have stocked up on M&S food, Peroni and chocolate.
I didn't tell anyone I was home alone in case they made me go out with them or, worse, invited themselves round.
I'm having a fabulous night.
Saddo!

british summer time

I hate it when the clocks go forward. There aren't enough hours in the day to start with without someone nicking one. And when my alarm went off this morning I was still very fast asleep. I just switched it off. Woke up 45 minutes later.
So that was a rush this morning!

sunshiney day

The sun came out today. All day.  How lovely :-)

quote of the week

Quote of the week comes from a Radio 4 interview with Katy B. She was talking about opportunities for women. She said that women around the world often had a "much less better education"
Hmmm she could have a point.....
The correct English is of course "much less betterer"

award ceremony

I received three blog awards this week! THREE! Like getting a Bafta. And an Oscar. And another Oscar. Only better!
First I got the sunshine award from the lovely Jen at Little Birdie.
Then I got the Liebster award from lovely Louise at Love Print Studio.
Then, just now, I got another Liebster from the fabulous Amy at Shiney Orange Dreams.
Thanks so much to all three. Toooo kind.
I'm now supposed to pass them all on to 5 people each.
Well....I am full of good intentions...
But I've got a terrible feeling that it's a job that'll go on the TO DO pile and stay there. I'm just rubbish at getting round to that sort of stuff. Answering questions. Picking people. FIFTEEN people. Having to make decisions. And which award to give to who?....Oh dear, could take a while. Watch this space....but don't hold your breath...

don't talk to me, I'm singing

I'm gonna have to find a new place to walk the dog. I see too many people I know on my current route and they always feel the need to talk to me. I don't want to chat thanks. I want to leave my iPod on LOUD and chill. I'm fed up of taking the ear thingy out to make polite chit chat. Right in the middle of a top tune.

rain stops play?

Due to the inclement weather conditions this afternoon the kids who were playing in our garden decided they needed to come inside to play. Inside our house. Seven kids and a dog. Being very loud. In our living room. Pass me the wine!

kitchen disaster

We leave the house at 8.20 every morning. For some unknown reason this morning I was ready at 8.15 so I decided to quickly set the washing machine going. Unfortunately, whoever put the fabric conditioner away last didn't put the lid on properly. (Ok it was me. It must have been me. I'm the only person in the house who knows what it is.) The (massive and very full) bottle fell to the floor and I was left holding the lid. Fabric conditioner splattered everywhere. I was soaked from head to toe. I had exactly 40 seconds to completely change my clothes, shoes and coat.
That'll teach me not to be so early in future!

the great escape

Now that it doesn't get dark till later and it's not so freezing cold any more our garden has once again become the neighbourhood playground. We had 10 kids playing here tonight. 10 kids and 1 dog.
Which is ok with me 'cos at least I know where my kids are.
Unlike some of the neighbours, it would seem, who didn't have a clue what their offspring were up to. The mother of the 4 year old child from down the road and round the corner is clearly more laid back than me! Although I wouldn't know 'cos I've never met her.
Anyway it's all fine until one of the little sods leaves the gate open and the dog escapes.
But that only happens every 10 minutes or so. And we've managed to get her back every time. So far....

Sunday 11 March 2012

full house

Our house has been full all weekend. Sleepover guest Friday night, our friend and her kids Saturday night and 9 people for tea tonight. (Should've been 11 but 2 phoned in sick so we had to send their tea home to them instead.) Plus a million kids in the garden most of the weekend.
Early night needed here....

drum lessons

Kirklees Music School had a clever marketing ploy. They sent some dude into school with a massive drum kit to bang about a lot and impress the kids. The kids then went home and nagged their parents senseless for drum lessons. I was one of the suckers who fell for it.
I tried to persuade him that guitar lessons would be a better option but he was having none of it. The dude with the drum kit won.
A very nice man phoned me today to tell me the little man can start his lessons after Easter. He is very excited. Ace!

Sunday 4 March 2012

all partied out

My friend was moaning the other day that she didn't have anything planned. She has an empty diary for the rest of the year. She has the week off work next week and she was fed up cos she doesn't have anything to do.
Eh?
I don't get it! How can you have nothing to do when you have 2 kids?
And if you haven't got anything you have to do when you have a week off shouldn't you be jumping for joy and punching the air in excitement?
I dream of having a week off! Even a week filled with picking up the crap the kids chuck on the floor and tackling the Everest size ironing pile would put a smile on my face.
I suspect I am the exact opposite of my friend. I haven't had time to scratch my arse this weekend...we went to the library, baked a cake, made chilli and had a sleepover on Friday, did lots of taxi-ing of kids, went for a long dogwalk and a 40th party on Saturday and spent all today in Sheffield at the mother-in-law's 70th party.
I'm knackered!
Oh for a week off with nothing to do!!

Thursday 1 March 2012

sunny day

Today was fab. The sun was shining. The sky was blue. I was doing work I love. AND the big one got her first choice secondary school. The one that had 800 applicants for 150 places. AND we're out of catchment! All her hard work paid off! What a star!
